World class engineer & music producer at Coffs recording studio

Coffs Harbour based music development organisation Grow the Music welcomes internationally renowned recording engineer Jeremy Allom.

The custom built, professional studio in Toormina, just south of Coffs Harbour, aims to support and develop the musical careers of Aboriginal, refugee and migrant musicians, as well as offer a space for youth workshops and skills development training.

Originally from England, Allom has been living in Australia since 2005 and has been working with Grow the Music since 2016, travelling to remote Aboriginal communities in Western Australia and the Northern Territory to deliver immersive music development programs and record new musical talent. His new role as Senior Engineer at Grow the Music studio will see him continue that work.

Jeremy Allom has over four decades of experience recording and producing some of the biggest acts in the world including Dire Straits, Massive Attack, Bjork, Divinyls, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and David Bowie.

Founder and Manager Lizzy Rutten said Allom’s appointment within the organisation means they can offer a high quality service to rival the biggest studios in the country.

“It’s magic for us to have Jeremy at Grow the Music, my heart skipped a beat when he said he would join us here in Coffs Harbour. He’s been through the entire analogue-to-digital conversion of recording, he remembers recording the rim shot of the snare drum and cutting up the four pieces of tape and sticking them back together to make a click track.”

Allom worked and was mentored by respected engineer Bill Price in the late 70’s at Wessex Sound Studios in London, as well as the famous Abby Road Studios and has an extensive catalogue of studio work across his career.

He is passionate about training young people and sharing his skills, and will continue to donate his time through Grow the Music programs to record First Nations artists and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who don’t have the resources to access professional music studios.

‘Jeremy has seen some of the most remote Aboriginal communities in this country on Grow the Music residencies, and he’s very keen to give back and support emerging musicians. I have learnt a lot from Jeremy during our work together and it's wonderful for musicians to access both him and the studio, they are a great fit.”

Grow the Music recording studio is taking bookings from musicians from all over Australia.
